Someone had to start a thread on it...

I love it.

So... thoughts?

I really thought Germany would do way better than they did! I mean, they had Dita Von Teese on their team!!!

I LOVE IT. Always have done. It's a family tradition to watch it. My mom made home made pizza (even though Italy weren't competing this year) and we had lots of European food such as stuffed vine leaves which are rather yummy.

We downloaded all the songs about a month ago and my mom's fave was Germany. I am shocked at how poorly they did. And he was super sexy!

I voted for Azerbaijan and Turkey once each. I just love that Eastern beat they both posses. I also really liked Armenia, Moldova, Norway and Greece (Sakis Rouvas - phwoar!)

I am annoyed that we did so well. This will just encourage Lloyd Webber and his shitty song writing!

I think the introduction of the half independent jury, half tele-voting was a good idea. It has really made a difference, and the show was all the better for it.

I liked Germany too, yo!! Maybe it's still incredibly political with nobody wanting to vote for the Germans!

I loved the Germans. But it was Moldova and their crazy dancing that got my vote

I don't have a TV, yo! And I haven't had one the past few years so I haven't seen it in a while. I used to love it though.

I'll probably YouTube bits. Hopefully next year can watch it with my housemates.

Okay, obviously I slept through Eurovision this year... was it advertised at all??
I can't believe we came 5th though... everytime I've watched it in the past we've been last or near last.
I always thought that the Eurovision was more about politics than music?
If that's true, what does this years results say about Europe?

Umm, it was advertised a bit on the BBC.

I have always maintained that Eurovision was mostly not political... I mean some places you just can't stop from voting for each other (like Cyprus voting for Greece), but I think generally it was less about politics and more about tastes. Like, obviously eastern Europe would vote for eastern Europe, because they have similar tastes in music and so presumably all the countries liked each other's entries. And the Mediterranean would vote for itself for the same reason.

This year, I think people have broken out of block voting for 2 reasons:
1) The rules on voting changed, and each country had a jury panel that also submitted votes on each song, based on its qualities etc., and these votes were counted along with the public votes. This added an element of "expert opinion" to the voting.
2) This year the quality of entrants was much higher (a lot of countries took it very seriously after last year's show, not just Britain), so people were more inclined to be impressed by the songs and decide to vote.
