isn't EU short for europe? "would appear from one of the European nations such as the EU" isn't that just saying "one of the european nations such as europe"? :S wouldn't an example of a european nation be france or italy or something?

that and is the US really the only super power?

er no, i never asked who was in the eu. you never said what it was a list of and considering they ARE european countries it's fair to assume you just compiled a list of european countries for reasons unknown to me. hence why i asked why you were posting a list or random countries and what the hell it had to do with anything.

Yes, hence proving Super Logica's point that the EU is not a nation. It is a union.

Errr, dude. LEARN GEOGRAPHY AND INTERNATIONAL POLITICS.

Sheesh.

"one of the European nations such as the EU>"

The EU is not a nation... As the name European Union would suggest, it's a union of European countries to promote trade and economics and international politics.

And no, Ev, "geographical" Europe and the EU are not the same. You have to be voted in to join the EU and you have to agree to their rules etc., Quite a few European countries are not members.

Oops did I post that in the forum. My comment should have been that the Anti Christ is expected to come out of one of nations that is presently part of the EU. Does that make better sense not that you will believe I meant this or anything, but nonetheless it is true...Others believe that it would be someone like the Pope who would have a huge religious following and clout to establish his power.

Err, yes, I totally didn't even notice you state that the U.S is the sole superpower, so enraged by your lack of knowledge as I was! I would totally rank Russia and China as superpowers.

I doubt you even know what it means to be a superpower and why the US is still the only superpower even by the words of the nations you mentioned. While it is true that each of those nations seek to achieve that status once again on Russia's part and China longs to be one still.

Seriously, could you be any more condescending? Yes I do know what a superpower is, which is why I nominated Russia and China for the title in the first place. A superpower (since you obviously don't know) is a nation with the power to influence events on a global scale to protect it's own interests. Just because Russia and China choose to ignore the rest of the world the majority of the time does not mean that they couldn't make us bend to their will if they wanted.

Logica. This post is making me sad.

All his years on Bloop, and you still view him as a credible source of discussion. Why do you grace him with your opinions?

I am sorry if I sounded condescending that wasn't the purpose. Should have choose better words. My comment was based on the fact that most people I have met are completely ignorant of what these things mean and believe that military might is the sole source of being a superpower which is completely untrue. Apologies if I upset you.

Interestingly enough she gave me the book definition almost word for word. So photographic memory or had to look it up. I guess only Millie would know. A superpower is not a superpower if all they have is military might as describe by Millie. They must have military, financial and diplomatic power that can be brought to bear to effect the intended outcome of the situation. And need I remind Millie that Russia was a superpower, lost its financial power and then slipped militarily as well where their Navy couldn't even go to Sea because of the condition of their depleted force.

Need I also remind Millie the Russian invade Georgian just last year, and has threatened to do the same with a couple of their other neighbors. China threaten Taiwan daily etc. While China will be a superpower in the future, and Russia is trying to reclaim its former status, the sole remaining superpower is the United States and all the nations admit this. Perhaps Millie knows something the rest of the leaders of the world doesn't. Nevertheless prophetically most believe Russia will invade Israel and China will be involved in a war in the Middle East against Israel as well.

Seriously. It's a sentence. I think I can cope with remembering one definition (you may be surprised to learn I can actually define many things). Incidentally, to which book are you referring? 'Cause I just looked it up in the Oxford Dictionary, which defines a superpower as "NOUN: any of the few most powerful and influential nations of the world." Which isn't what I said at all.

Also, don't put words in my mouth. Where exactly did I state that power was "military might"? Oh wait, I didn't. China's superpower status in my opinion relies on the fact they could cripple the rest of the world's economy if they so wanted, which to me means it can "influence events on a global scale". I assume that they wouldn't do this because it may not be in their best interests to do so, but that doesn't mean they couldn't. I seriously doubt you are wearing fairtrade clothes, or that you don't own anything in your house that has been made in China. There are more types of power than just physical power. (Although I am sure their army is rather good too.)

I'm not sure how Russia invading Georgia proves that they are not a superpower. Their Navy may not be as good as it formerly was (indeed, it may be verging on crap), but that doesn't mean they couldn't (and wouldn't) start a war if they wanted to. I do consider Russia's superpower status to be based on their physical strength: as you define superpowers as needing military, financial and diplomatic power to bring the intended outcome: Russia has the military strength, it has no qualms about letting it's people live in poverty for the greater good of the country (so money isn't a problem), and who needs diplomatic power when you can bomb anyone who resists you?

In terms of military might, China has the world's largest standing army, of 2.3 million people. That's pretty terrifying by my estimations!!!

Everyone I know who has been to China describes them as: "Worse than Americans in their arrogance and ignorance." The Chinese education system is more sickeningly patriotic and selfindulgent than that of Weimar. The Chinese are raised to genuinely believe they are the master race, and all others are inferior, yo!

They scare me more than the USA ever could.
