i'm 21 and still live at home with the parents. because of finical situations, i'm unable to move out on my own. i was just wondering, if you are 21 and still live at home, do you have to do housework/chores? and also, do you have to be home at a certain time when you go out? i have to do all the housework (vacuuming, dusting, picking up around the house, and sweeping/mopping the mudroom and kitchen). i usually have to do all of it when i want to do something with friends either during the week, or sometime during the weekend. and when i do go out, i have to be home way early, usually before 10pm. what would your advice be to me? should i rebel and say that i'm 21 and that i should be able to go out with friends and not have a curfew? what are your opinions?

I was still living at home when i was 21, but i was working and paid for a few things while i lived there.
I didn't have to do /everything/ around the house, but i def had to keep the place clean. I didn't have a curfew.
I moved out on my 22nd birthday.

However, i would probably say that if you keep the place clean like youre just a guest in their home right now, you should be able to go out and do as you wish.

i work full time, and i don't have to pay for anything currently.
however, my parents also know that i'm unable to help pay for anything.
and our house is ALWAYS clean anyway. whenever a friend of mine comes over,
they always say our house looks like a damn museum because it's so clean all the time.
so, really, keeping the place clean doesn't help, since there really isn't that much of a mess to begin with.
thanks for your reply.

well, i dont know how much your loan is.. and i know its tough...
Im paying off a maxed out visa, plus rent, net, phone, electric, transportation, food, furniture payments and money comes in and then its gone.
i dont know how much youre making an hour, but i think if you sat down and just planned out your bills into a strict budget you may find you can get away from their place and become your own person in your own place.

i have sat down and budgeted myself.
i'm just not making enough to support myself.
my loan: $126 a month
gas: $25-28 a week
and phone: $35-45 a month.
i am just getting by paying those.
i've been thinking about finding a second job.
however, michigan is not full of jobs and it's hard to find one.

that was half of the spring tuition.
i paid the other half at the beginning of the semester, which was last month.
so, it's just once this month.
since i graduate in june, i will not have tuition/book expenses anymore.

Okay.. so that expense is gone come 21 days from now.

Min wages in your state is 7.40, so that means you make roughly 740 a month before they take off any government crap on a 25 hour a week estimate. -- If its anywhere like here, on a part timer, my 25 hour a week job only takes 45 dollars. so id say 695 should be what you should have in your pocket a month from working 25 hours. which is true, not enough to live on, however, if you picked up a second job on the weekends, you may just be able to pull it off.

you could find a weekend job that would give you 14-16 hours. And then work your usual part time 25 hour shifts during the week.

Which is kind of what im doing right now.
im working two jobs and going at a 45 hours a week. 20 hours from Rona, 25 hours from my cleaning job.

im paying 200 to my visa, 560 for my rent, 200-250 for food, 170 for my utilities, 60 for my transportation, 100 for my furniture.. etc..

what i would do is go through the paper or internet and find a decent bachelor or 1 bedroom and then plan on what kind of food you would want to eat when you live alone and just call around to companies and see if they will tell you an average of the costs of things you plan to have when you move. I just stuck with internet as apposed to TV cause you can watch TV on the computer anyway. and just see what it all totals and see if you can just tightly get by.

for part time, 25 hours, at 9.50 an hour.
for my rona job, since its only 20 hours at 9 dollars an hour, it will be slightly less.

full time it would probably be about 200 off, if i was working 40 hours a week for one company.. lol

Well I am technically still an intern. (Though we all know I do not work like one!) But I do work full time, from about 9am til 7pm (2 hours lunch though) and usually overtime that is not paid extra for! Ha, and people think advertising pays good! :-P

And well, I'm in Brazil. Different country, lower wages I guess, but still. :-P I want me some more money!
