I agree with everything you said here. If the gay community wants tolerance and respect for their views and opinions then they should show it themselves when someone disagrees with them.

The First Amendment protects her right to speak her mind and opinion, despite what others may think. However, there are consequences to exercising that right.

While she cannot (and should not) be legally held for her opinion, exercise of opinion can have consequences. For instance, a food store with a large sign claiming allegiance to the Taliban and al-Qaida extremists would be boycotted and subsequently go out of business. Considering Miss USA is a privately run competition, her disqualification for her opinion is at the discretion of the funding members. While I disagree with her disqualification (after all, they asked for her honest opinion), it was within their rights.

Whatever, it's her opinion. I don't really care about same-sex marriage. I used to be all for it, when my best friend was a gay guy. Then he turned into a psycho and after living with a gay guy for a year and a half, I don't really have the patience with all that campness.

That is a good point. We do live in a country where we have a right to free speech & our own views. I am for gay marriage but I do have to agree that it was wrong of Perez Hilton to not give her any points for that question. It wasn't like she was a straight up b!tch and like "Hell no gays are wrong" or anything. But he got what he wanted & that is people talking. I don't believe all members of the gay community are hypocrites but just like any other group of people there are a few people that take it too far. Which is an unfortunate thing, because then people start to judge the whole group when really it was maybe only 1 or 2 people that are like that.

I do, however, have to also agree with .Krisstah. because she makes a valid point. She is representing America. Not all of the U.S. agrees with her.

I want to say that even though I may not agree completely with you, I do like the fact that you stated your opinion nicely with out like being rude or an a-hole.

I don't think she or any of them is really representative of our nation. Blond hair blue eyes size 4 jeans. I don't see that as being representative of our nation. It is actually harmful I believe because the youth take this as exactly how they should be. Beauty pageant are just pride mongering, elitist, attention seeking IMHO

I agree & that's why I don't watch it or let my sisters watch it. Especially because we are not that type & the last thing my sister needs it too make more things to make her feel different when she is 13. When I was saying she is representing America, I meant that as an if she was crowned Miss America or whatever the competition was.

But that is the "point" of the Beauty Pageant. They are looking from some one that America can "relate" to & parents wont mind having go into their child classroom & speaking to them. I don't agree but it is what it is.

Well id agree wit her -- a marriage is for a man and woman

There's a different name that's like a marriage but its not something 2 do wit demestic (sp) parnership

Doesn't nessarly means I'm against bi lesbian gay people they should have equal rights

But then again people can be afriad 2 speak out opinons with out drama. Which I don't intend to do a nasty comment I will not react to it...an opinon is an opinon

we should be tolerant of intolerance? '

i don't believe in this reasoning.

let's say a man says i shouldn't be able to demand the same pay as him for the same job.
as a woman, i should respect his opinion and not speak out against it?

Yeah, I think we should respect a person's right to have that opinion. It doesn't meant that I have to agree with that opinion or support it but if I have one contrary to that I should be equally allowed to share my thoughts about that opinion and have that respected as well. Furthermore, I think you took what I said and tried to make me say something I did not even imply. I stated that in fact those who are enraged by her comments are guilty of intolerance themselves and that makes them a hypocrite.

I just told you why they shouldn't be enraged. She shared her opinion. She didn't state you had to believe the same. In fact she said people had the right to choose for themselves. Her choice was she believed it was between a a man and woman.

Did I mention silence? I said that a person on both sides of the issue should respect each others opinion. However to punish someone just because you do not agree with them isn't tolerance it is fact a travesty. If she said I believe that marriage is between a man and woman and all others are going to rot in the pits of hell or we should kick them out of the country that would be far different. She was courteous, gracious, and there was No malice in anything she said.

however, if you believe that something is unjust, you should fight against it. if people don't agree with her opinion and want to fight for "gay rights," they should speak up. if she has those rights, so do they.

Stop me if I am missing your point but did I ever say that they didn't have the right. But if they do they should show the grace, honesty and humility that was shown by Miss California showed with her answer

She has all her pretty rights, the right to get married. It's easy for her because this isn't an issue that affects her personally. If someone's opinion is against a right that you deserve, again, you can be outraged.

Why do you never answer a question with an appropriate response. Did you hear Perez and his lunacy and compare that to the gracious response of Miss California? Who do you think better represented her cause. You can check it out on Utube if you have not. ....below are the links.

Let us face reality while he stated these statement they are not unique to Mr. Hilton. These same attitudes are shared by many in the gay community and while they scream at Christians for their opinion they in fact show teh same intolerance to others............that is the classic definition of hypocrisy.

You cannot say one thing and then turn right around and do the same thing you accuse others of doing.

That isn't what I said, this is starting to seem a bit fruitless. I am stated the two parties that were involved. Did you miss that? One stands on the one side the other on the other side. Who do you honestly, taking all of your own bias aside think better represented their cause?

Where does the Constitution state that marriage is a right?

where in the constitution states that privacy is a right?

nowhere, yet it's been found in several different cases that we do have a right to expect privacy.

just because it isn't in the constitution word for word does not mean it doesn't exist.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

That's pretty much it, right there. The right to be protected from others intruding upon your personal effects without probable cause.
