Reading MEME: Where the BBC make up statistics

12/28/2009

I pinched this from an LJ friend, because I love books. So...

How do your reading habits stack up? [bold those books you've read in their entirety, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish]

The BBC allegedly believes most people will have only read 6 of the 100 books here:

1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen This is a text for English at school, so I imagine a lot of GB people have read it...
2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien I thought the second book sucked.

96 A Town Like Alice - Nevil Shute I now have the song with the similar name in my head.
97 The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas
98 Hamlet - William Shakespeare School text...
99 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl Better than the films! Have also read the sequel.
100 Les Miserables - Victor Hugo Hate the musical.

I've read 43, and abandoned 4. I have this thing about abandoning books, so I'm not surprised that's a small number. I don't like to leave books unfinished in case they get better at the end and I have misjudged them.

We didn't do any of those school texts at Walton, when I was doing my literature A-level at the start of the course the teacher asked us all which books we had recently read and which were our favourite, there was one girl in the class and the only book she had ever read outside of school was Jordan's autobiography.

I'll do a copy and paste job to show how many I have read.

I personally think Austen is more overrated than the Brontes... aside from Wuthering Heights because OMG I frickin hate that book.
I know this because I got much further in Jane Eyre than Pride and Prejudice... but I never finished either haha.

You should make it a goal to read all those books.

i am not going to copy and paste that as i have only started two books and finished none. i feel so un-educated.

I've read 28. I don't see why the whole HP series only counts as one! And The Da Vinci Code is SO FAR from good literature. It's POOR.

[Mojo Jojo|0 likes] [|reply]

O dear, only read 13 of those and given up on 2!

Sounds like you're actually quite a reader. I feel like I should do this, since so many of my faves have, but I'm afraid that I won't have read very many of these.
