Have I become a teacher or principal of my own home?

10/02/2020

This week has been interesting. With six kids doing online school right now - all in different grades - they are certainly giving me some challenges.

It started with children simply not doing their work. One of them would submit their work without actually doing it, instead they would post things like "what even is this?" To be fair, that's pretty hilarious. I'm sure the teacher laughed. Others would miss meetings and assignments.

I have been slowly but surely pushing them to success. They aren't missing meetings any more, four out of six of them are caught up on assignments and the other two are on their way.

With all that said, I'm sure that other parents are experiencing similar challenges. The teachers have been thrust into teaching online and that's difficult to do. I imagine as time goes on, they will get in their groove and the kids will become better at working.

One benefit to this online schooling is that I can handle their behaviors that I don't usually get to see. Behaviors that the schools would normally handle. It is interesting to see how those behaviors come about, and to note that many of them are from anxiety about school work.

Anyway, that's pretty much my week. In other news the garage is progressing and I can't wait for it to be done.

I think I'll do the TOTW entries soon.

Also - if you don't mind, check out my newest YouTube video: you don't own your children. I am looking for feedback regarding the content, the audio quality, the video quality, and anything else that might be relevant.

I can't help but think that it this whole home schooling thing is going to cause ripples in the way society forms for a decade or two to come

Definitely hard on teachers. They want to be in person teaching but they also want to be safe and have the kids safe, too. We are going to a hybrid model next week. Some in person and some online. Only 34% of the kids are returning.

OK watched the video! My mom hated my best friend. We were friends since 5th grade. She would have strong opinions about her: she's a liar, she manipulates you, she's going to get you in trouble....years later she was right lol

Is there anything she could have done that would have helped you realize that yourself? (I guess if you realized it eventually, that's good lol)

We've been doing the Remote Learning thing for a couple months now. A few weeks ago, schools started to open up here for campuses to be somewhat open[modified in-person learning], but husband and I feel it's too soon to send Ethan to school. And, we were right. There were a few cases at a high school recently.

I feel terrible though, because Ethan is in kindergarten, & he should experience
school. Not to mention my fella has so much energy, playing out on a playground would be good for him.

I honestly don't blame your kiddos for not wanting to do school. I bet some of their morale(depending on if some of them are geeks and LIKE school. I was one of these).
