Drenched.

[Challenge Books l My Service Diary]

drenched!

So, we ended up going camping. Everyone seem to want to bail because it was suppose to rain. Well, it was suppose to all weekend and it didn't so we thought that we would take our chances. It ended up being me, Jeff, and the kids plus Opie. We get there and it was overcast as it had been all day but then the sun came out and it was pretty. Yes! We get busy getting camp set up. The wood was still a bit damp and it took awhile to get a good fire going. Afterwhile my sisters and bro-n-law showed up. They weren't planning on staying only visiting which was cool. While they were there my sis, Meg, was texting Gordy about not coming. We kept trying to call him before we left cause he was supposed to go but he wasn't answering the phone. Either he was asleep or avoiding us cause he didn't want to go. We figured the latter especially cause LED and Pop Evil was at the Pub. We figured he wanted to go there instead. Well, he told my sis that he woke up late...around 3:50 ish? Well, we left a bit before that. He wanted to come so Jeff drove clear back over the mountain and picked his ass up. So, we all partied for a bit and hung out and then the company left. We fished, drank, and chilled by the fire. Even though it had been pretty it started sprinkling later on. Not a lot...hell, I never even put on a sweater though everyone else had. I cooked burgers and we listened to the race. About 10 minutes after we ate I noticed the kids had fallen asleep in their chairs. I woke them and got them situated in the tent. Michael didn't want to go but I made him and within 5 minutes he was asleep. Finally, around 1 or so I went to bed. Not long after I went I could hear the rain pick up but it apparently only lasted a few minutes or so. We had brought a tent for Opie but last time he never went to bed so I said I wouldn't set it up until he was ready to use it so that if we had to make a break for it because of rain I wouldn't have to try to roll up two tents. He insisted that he didn't want one that he would sleep in the chair by the fire. Ok, whatever. I told Jeff to wake me up after awhile and I'd come back out. He did a little before daybreak. Mainly because everyone else had gone to bed...Opie fell asleep in the chair and he had nobody to talk to or keep him awake. He stays up mainly to keep an eye on camp. Last week when he was searching for wood he'd seen a bear print and we already knew that bears came around the area. Finally day broke and I went back to bed. He said he was coming in a bit. Not to long later I hear the tent opening and I hear Jeff tell Opie to get on in. The rain had really picked up now. I loved it though because it made for good sleep listening to it hit the tent. Awesome. But Jeff made Opie get in the tent because it was too much rain and not only that but he was worried about something coming into camp and him not being aware of it. Ok, so the rain was nice until I woke to the end of my sleeping bag being wet. wtf? I guess a tent is only so water-proof lol. mainly it was the fact that the tent was set on a slight incline so we were kinda laying up hill. The water that managed to seep through the sides of the tent after so much rain was gathering at the side with the doors since it was on the down side and of course, as gravity has it, you tend to slide downhill while sleeping. It was a pretty decent steady rain. I decided to get up. The kids were up but I made them stay in the tent for awhile. I grabbed the umbrella and went out. After a few minutes of waking time I decided to go ahead and start gathering stuff and hauling it out to the car. I had everything in the car ready to go besides the tents, sleeping bags, and coolers. I was soaked. I had put on two pairs of my pj pants figuring it would be cold, which it really wasn't, and both were soaked. We finally got everyone up and packed the rest and went home. It sucked we couldn't cook breakfast over the fire but it's cool. We all came back to our place while I cooked breakfast adding sausage to the menu. We had to stop and get bread though because all of that kinda stuff had gotten ruined. My place is a disaster, hell it was before we left. Tomorrow I have to go up to the school with Michael and then come home and clean, clean, clean! lol

when our family goes camping we usually set up the tents on tarps and have extra tarps to throw over top WHEN it starts raining. cause usually it's just a matter of when and not if lol. sometimes you get lucky but it usually at LEAST sprinkles once. it's oregon. gotta love it.
