Fall For You - Secondhand Serenade

I'm so bad at this whole "updating" thing. Honestly. I always say that I'm going to, but I never end up doing it.

Let's see.. Just some general things really quick... I turned 17 on November 10th! My friend Amanda came up for Thanksgiving this year. It was nice to be able to see her again. I think she's coming up for Christmas too! It'll be awesome. (: Um.. Solo and Ensemble is like, a month away. And we just got our music. This is going to be an interesting year, lmao.

Anyway - school has been stressful/fun. It's so terrifying to think that I have less than 2 trimesters left in high school. Mrs. Warren has been all hitler-like lately. All of the other senior English classes have about a month and a half to two months to do their senior research project, us lucky AP English kids have about 2.5 weeks. Our rough draft is due on the 14th of this month - we're "peer reviewing" one of the most important papers we'll write this year, and then the final draft is due on the 17th of this month. On top of that, she's been giving us out-of-class reading/homework and such, even though she promised us she wouldn't. I don't know, I'm so done with school right now. -Sigh- Oh well, I'll probably write my paper the night before and end up with an A on it as usual. :P

AP Physics has been going well. I ended up with a B- in the class last trimester, which is actually really good - even though I tend to beat my self up because of it. Besides that, I surprisingly really like the subject and I'm getting better and better at the tests and such. Mrs. Bailey said I have a very, VERY good chance of getting a 4 or a 5 on the AP test in May! (: So, I'm happy about that.

Last week/weekend was all about Band-A-Rama. BAR is probably the biggest band function put on by the band program every year and it consists of Friday, Saturday & Sunday performances by a diverse group of performers, a large part of the show dedicated to our awesome marching band (that I'm not in - thank God for resisting joining for the past 4 years...). Anyway, I was in two acts this year. One of them was an arrangement of Glee's "Don't Stop Believin'" that I sang backup for with a ton of my friends and other people and another was a senior-only group thing we put together called "Project Mayhem" and it was an arrangement of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" with the brass instruments being the Devil (they wore black shirts with red bandanas) and the woodwinds being Johnny (we wore white shirts with blue bandanas).

Anyway, this madness that we band kids look forward to every year started on Thursday night (I spent 56 hours at school last week, when I normally only spend about 35 hours a week there). We had a dress rehearsal from 4pm-10pm after we had been in school that day from 7:56am-2:49pm. Let's just say that it was a long ass day. Mayhem was ridiculous - we sounded awful and we were all terrified of sounding bad in our actual performances, and poor Mark just couldn't get the beat of the song when he was singing and we ended up taking him off of the singer part. ;/ Glee was alright on its first run, actually. Kerri and Baron (the leads) are fantastic singers. We hadn't rehearsed as a group at all, so it was nice to have something go right.

The next day we started our performances. We had 3 performances on Friday, when every other year we've only done 2, so it was a lot to sit around for. Our first performance started around 9 o'clock and it was for the 5th graders from all 5 of the elementary schools in our district. That's always a fun show because they are sooo enthusiastic. I loved it. Plus, it was an awesome performance for both Glee AND Mayhem. Somehow we pulled through. Maybe it was because we had a new singer? I don't know. But it was good.

We then went to lunch and then we had a very important, serious performance next. This performance was for the mentally challenged adults and children in our community. There were roughly 100 people there (counting their caretakers/family) and let me tell you - I cried. I cried because of how inspiring it was for us to perform and interact with them and watch the sheer joy because of music on their faces. One girl was dancing like crazy and was conducting the band and it was just the sweetest thing ever. They were all rocking out when the rock back played "Sweet Child of Mine" and people were headbanging and it was just adorable. I must say that despite the fact that it WAS one of our best playing performances ever as a band, the fact that Mr. Kmet arranged that and we got to perform for them just made me one of the happiest people ever. It was so fantastic. Words can't even describe how I still feel when I reflect back on that performance.

After that, we had about 50 minutes until school got out, so we rehearsed Glee that entire time and my throat started to hurt, so when I went home, I kept the talking to a minimum until I had to be back up at the school. I'm going to skip ahead to that nights performance - my friend Elizabeth came from Dearborn and I was hoping for a good run. Glee was fantastic, as usual, but Mayhem. Well.. it was utter mayhem. Kevin forgot the lyrics and said really loud into the microphone that he "forgot the lyrics." Lovely. I was infuriated and totally embarrassed after that, so when the performance ended, I just went home and Elizabeth and I just talked and listened to music and such.

Saturday was pretty much a blur in the morning because I was so tired. But we had a performance that night and my parents + my little cousin came. It was a ton of fun. (: Glee was awesome, of course, and then Mayhem was more than halfway decent - which was fantastic for us. I was finally not embarrassed to be in it! Lol. Jordyn & Kelsey came over after, Jordyn spent the night and Kelsey left after about an hour or so.

Wow.. I've written so much about Band-A-Rama. This is getting ridiculous. I promise I'll try and wrap it up soon!

Sunday - Senior night! Jordyn, Kelsey and I are all seniors this year, but we don't get the senior jerseys or anything because we aren't in marching band, right? - I'll get to that point in a second. First, this night was the best performance of Mayhem and Glee was fantastic again. But there's another performance I have to note. One of my good friends, Baron, had sang a solo in the show over the weekend and such (he was pretty much in everything - Glee, he's a drum major, he sang, he's in Jazz Band, he was in Mayhem, lmao..). He sang "Fall For You" by Secondhand Serenade while playing it on the piano. And on Sunday he incorporated the lyrics from "Almost Lover" by a Fine Frenzy. And ohh man, I cried and then gave him the biggest hug ever. He put so much emotion into the song and it was just.. Oh man. Anyway, focus. They do this thing called Senior Circle where all of the seniors play the marching show from their freshman year of band and then their names get announced and the juniors play them the Alma Mater. Well, Mr. Kmet actually put mine, Jordyn & Kelsey's name in the list of graduating seniors so we actually ran down to stand with the seniors while the Alma Mater played - which will be a moment I'll never forget.

So, all in all, BAR was fantastic this year and I'm going to miss not being in it next year! Lol. Well, I better get going. Kelsey's coming to get me soon, and then we're going to a Glee season finale party (best show ever). <3

I promise I'll sort of, kind of try to update again soon! (:
