I don't know why, but Christmas music makes me depressed. Does anyone out there feel the same way? Did you know that Jesus was not really born on December 25th? The 25th is actually the birth date of the Greek sun god. Nowadays, Christmas is more the celebration of Santa Claus and presents (materialism) than it is of Jesus' birth on earth. And if you don't buy into this culture of everyone should celebrate Christmas or the December holidays, you are the grinch. Before you call me the grinch, I must say that Christmas (as well as Thanksgiving) is a good holiday to get together with family. That's the good thing about these holidays. Unfortunately, my family is scattered in different places in the States and overseas. I do miss the days (when I was younger) when my family is in one place and we had family gatherings on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Since I am Christian and knowing that Dec 25th is not Christ's birthday, I am not that much into the Christmas celebrations. I am using December to catch up with my work to serve, and to further myself on this "road less traveled." I will probably explain this phrase at some point in the future. For now, I will just say that I've sacrificed a lot of income and have foregone many "stable" opportunities for this "road less traveled" and have been focused and laboring on this road for the last few years. I am looking forward to the day when I will be reaping the harvest and millions of people benefit from my work (or God's work through me). |
