The next morning Dalila woke up very early and decided she needed to pay Bryce a visit. They needed to talk, to get things out, and just to be set straight, both of them. She got up, showered, pulled on an old pair of jeans and a white t-shirt and headed down the road. Just because of the weirdness between them, Dalila did knock and wait for someone to answer the door. His dad, Tony answered the door.

“Good morning Mr. Centry. Can I talk to Bryce?”

“Sure, but I think he’s sleeping.” Dalila tried to smile sweetly but the evil grin shone through.

“I understand but I don’t care” she laughed. Tony chuckled and let her in. She walked to his room rasped on the door twice and swung it open. He was sleeping in a old pair of cotton shorts on his back. Dalila went over to him and shook him gently. Slowly his eyes started to open then he jumped into a sitting position.

“What the fu…” he trailed off. “What are you doing here?!”

“We need to talk.” Bryce ran a hand over his face and looked at the clock, seven-fifteen.

“It couldn’t wait for the rest of the world to wake up?”

“No. We need to talk now.” she said sternly. Bryce groaned and motioned for her to sit on the computer chair across the room. She pulled it closer to him and sat in front of him. He put on some muscle in the last few months… Ugh, don’t get distracted. she willed herself.

“What do you want to talk about?”

“Us.” she saw his eyes light up. “Not like that… There are some things that need to be said.” Bryce only nodded and waited for her to continue. “I love you, you know that… Am I still in love with you? Yes. I wish things were different between us but with me living so far away for at least another three years, I couldn’t imagine doing that to you. Maybe if we’re both single when I come home, we can try it again. But please don’t wait for me… We both need to try and move on, just try.” she sighed and looked at him. “I said I wanted to try and save a friendship and I mean that, more than anything. I miss having a best friend.”

“Me too…. Mostly I just miss you, more than just as a girlfriend.” They both smiled and some of the tension eased away.

“Good.”

“Now can you please go away so I can go back to sleep?” he laughed.

“Not a chance!” she picked up a pillow and threw it at him. “Get up and hang out with me… You won’t see me for a while after this summer.”

“At least then I’ll get to sleep in” he teased. Dalila grabbed his hand and pulled him.

“Get up, get dressed, and entertain me” she laughed.

Dalila went into the living room to wait for him when her phone alerted her that she had a text message. She dug her phone out of her pocket and flipped it open. It was from Jared, who she’d barely thought of during this trip.

I miss you…

She sighed and texted him back.

Miss you too

She did miss him, now that she thought about him. Things had just been so hectic since she’s been home. Her phone went off again.

Not having too much fun w/out me are you?

She smiled at she read it and gave a small giggle.

“What’s so funny?” Bryce asked walking into the living room.

“Just a message from a friend.” She didn’t reply and slid the phone into her pocket.

“I know I probably shouldn’t ask..” he paused. “Are you and Steve still friends?”

“No. As soon as I got back it was the end of that.”

“Cool.” he nodded. “So what do you want to do?”

“Wanna go to the beach?” Bryce groaned and looked at her.

“Really, D? I just put regular clothes on.”

“Fine… Movies?”

“No thanks, I’ve watched enough girly movies with you.” He laughed and D nudged his shoulder.

“Whatever. So then what?”

“We could go see Gavin and Sarah.”

“Sure, what the hell…”

The four of them were hanging out, talking about the past and the future. Who knew Gavin and Sarah were actually serious and engaged. Dalila was floored when they told her. They invited her to the wedding but they didn’t know when it was.

“Well, keep me posted.” she smiled at them. It was weird to think that just a few years ago Sarah was the enemy.

“We will” Sarah beamed. Just then Dalila’s phone rang, she pulled it out and answered it.

“Hello?”

“Hey you.” Jared said.

“Hi, how are you?”

“Good… Missed hearing your voice though.”

Dalila held up a finger and walked into the other room. They talked for about ten minutes then she said she should go.

“I’ll talk to you later, ok?”

“Yeah. Ok. Miss me, ok?” he asked

“Yes” she smiled.

“Yes what?”

“Yes, I’ll miss you.”

“Ok, bye.!”

When she turned around, Bryce was standing in the hall way with a somber look on his face. He just looked at her.

“Ready to go?” he asked.

“Yeah…” she didn’t know if she should bring it up or not but decided against it when they got to the car.
