Today is going to be a fun day. I'm going to a son of a friend of mine's Bar Mitzvah and then the selebration after is at an expensive restaurant. I'm guessing the party will probably cost about 10K. There is also a dance floor and DJ so you better believe I'll be up dancing.
Today is also Karen's birthday. My twin's best friend's birthday and a friend of the family's birthday who I grew up with and is a year younger than me.
The lady who I grew up with, her name is Stacey. Growing up, I had a little crush on her and she was the first girl I kissed. So when I found out that for her 10th birthday, (1989) she was going to have her first boy-girl party and there would be some dancing, I was excited that I would get to dance with Stacey.
(break in the story...I had some vision at this point in both eyes. My right eye was the better of the two. With it, I could read regular print with reading glasses and the left eye wasnt so good)
However, a day before? maybe two days before? the party something was wrong, something wasnt right. I remember going to my parent's room and my mom was sitting on her bed crying. As I looked at the white walls, they were a shade of pink, the tannish blanket, was a shade of pink and my mom was too. I did not know what was happened. My mom said to me that I have to have an emergency opporation on my right eye. "the doctors are going to try all they can but they dont know what's going to happen." I had tears in my eyes. I was scared. I didnt know what was going on.
On November 17th, 1989 I would have an opporation that changed my life.
There was hemorrhaging above my right eye along with a detached retna. I had to wear a patch for 2 weeks straight. When I was allowed to take the patch off...BLACK! NOTHING! I was left totally blind out of my right eye, the better of the two.
My life was changed forever with a blink of an eye. |
