************************************************

What many of you may not know about me is all the assist I got till I graduated HS.

I had a 1-on-1 Aid who would meet me when I got to school, walk me to all my classes, take all my notes for me, and give me all my tests.

Do to my hearing disability, I had a speach teacher I would see 2-3 periods a week.

Do to my blindness, I would have a Braille-computer technology teacher that I saw 5 periods a week and sometimes after school. She would mainly teach me word perfect and all the hot keys. I also had a little computer called the Braille and Speak. She would help me with advance stuff on that. I would also have to read books for her and do book reports on the computer. I believe she also, when she could, get tests from my teachers early, and braille them so I could read them myself and just give my aid the answers for her to fill-write in my answers. She also helped me learn the letters for spanish braille since I took 4 years of honors spanish.

I also had PT, who I would see two periods a week that would replace my gym requirement. We would mostly stretch me out and than work out on the weight machines they had.

I had a Mobility Instructor. He would teach me how to get around. It started with my school, than neighborhood, Eventually the bus and trains. My SR year, he would take me to the colleges I was applying to see the lay out and how big they were. During the summer after I graduated hs, when everyone was enjoying the summer time, I was learning my way around the college I was going to. I had to learn 3 campouses. Knowing where all my classes were and the caf, the book store, the thearter, the athletic building, and the campous center. Except for Biology class, it was defanately one of the most dificult things I had to learn-memorize in my life.

Try to close your eyes and walk around your college.

Mobility was the only thing that continued beyond HS. I went from having all that help to no help at all. I would have to take my own notes. Find a chair in the classroom that was unocupied where I could hear the teacher from. Be my own advicate and talk to the profesors myself. Teaching them how to teach to me. Figuring out what to do about taking tests and how I would handle doing research reports and other projects.

We have a student in the Music school here who blind and has perfect pitch. I remember over the summer, walking around campus and seeing him walk around campus with an aid so he could learn how to get around. Now he doesn't it completely by himself and it's so impressive.

I would love to see photos from your Junior prom! lol.

ryn: Aww yeah I'm sure he'd love that He doesn't have contact with the outside world unless it's calling or writing me or his family, and occasional visits, so I'm sure anything he would get would make him happy. And I will definitely share your note to Scarlett with him
