Rage Against the Machine for The UK Christmas Number One?!?!?!

12/22/2009

It's A First.

Okay so like every year for the past 4 or 5 (I think) the X Factor winner has always been Christmas number one...but not this year it seems.

Started by a Facebook group suggesting that Rage Against the Machine should be the UK's Christmas number one with the song "Killing In The Name" (which I personally Love). But what I don't get is why it's taken this long for it to get in the top ten charts. It was first released way back in 1992!! over TEN years!!

It has sold over 65,000 and has raised a lot of money for charities. What I find funny is that Radio 5 played the whole song "Killing In the Name" including the full lyrics which the host of the show didn't realise and the BBC had to apologise for playing it at 9AM!! lol You would of thought that the BBC of all people would of listened to it first before airing it.

Anyway I think its about time that metal took back the charts.

It's taken this long because it's not actually there because it is a particularly good or even a popular song. It is there only because of the Facebook campaign.

I think it's good in a way that someone else has won it this year, but I don't particularly like the way in which it was done. It was just so contrived. I would have rather the Christmas number one be there because it's a good song that people love, rather than just because people have bought it because they hate The X factor. And I don't particularly like either the Rage OR the X Factor song. There's such better music out there.

And I don't really get why people get in such a tizz about the Christmas number one anyway. Before The X Factor it was won by the likes of the Spice Girls and Mr Blobby. It's never really been about music.

That's because it's not popular anymore. You can't blame the chart for the fact people have taste these days.
