Super Hole Sunday

02/05/2012

Well, it's that time of year where I avoid television and friends' gatherings in an underwhelming effort to divest myself of the possibility of seeing a pointless football game.

It won't work, of course. At some point people will say "did you see" such and such commercial. It's perplexing.

I can't understand why people go out of their way to be advertised at. It's not because of the sport. I mean, I hate football. I don't voluntarily watch, and usually avoid if possible, but even other people I know who hate football watch the Super Bowl. FOR THE COMMERCIALS. WTF? It's like the line from that New Model Army song "R&R" "We're learning to love the things that we hate". I mean seriously, what's the worst part of modern television viewing? Commercials. There's 16 minutes of commercials an hour, and in a sports event it's even worse.

"But, They're Clever".

I don't care. I hate commercials, and I hate football, and I find no reason to have a party where both are the main focus.

If people rave about a particular clever commercial, I'll find it on youtube, at my leisure. Maybe. I don't need an event. I don't need to be reminded of reasons I think our country's values are out of whack. I'll just hang out and read a book. It's a good thing I have so many now that there are fewer places to buy them. Oh, right, remember the downfall of the economy? Yeah, bookstores were effected.

Happy Super Bowl. Feel free not to let me know about it.
