Progress on my van

06/21/2010

Well, I finally got down to testing the van some more. I cut the connector and completely disconnect the transmission's computer, and wired it so that I could manually select the gear the transmission should be.

Only problem is, it didn't work!!! I couldn't engage 1st, 3rd or 4th. 2nd is always engaged by default. I have been able to engage 1st prior to this, so it seemed unlikely that the transmission had randomly lost 1st gear (which was always strong and quick to engage).

So I disconnected the solenoid pack, and sure enough 3 of the 4 solenoids inside aren't working. One is stuck solid, the other two are sort of stuck, the remaining one works half the time. Basically, they are clogged up.

All I need to do now is find another solenoid pack that works, and the van will be on its way to recovery. I also need to replace the wiring harness that I cut up... or repair it, lol.

** Has recently given up losing weight after realising that with an ass the size of his, physics probably has a law against reduction in mass. Kind of like a black hole, except every now and then it expels some gas. **

I'm sorry it didn't work

Oh, don't be! This is a good thing. Had the solenoid pack worked and the gears not engaged, that'd have meant that the transmission was physically damaged... and it'd have been >$1000 to repair. This will be a much simpler repair costing less than $100. [SteveStar] [reply]

Oh

Just shows how much I know about cars lol.

Awesome. You should call around Jackson. There are TONS of junkyards and other car places here. You would prolly be able to find it real easy. [Music God Of BloopStar] [reply]
