New Home

03/21/2014

Tuesday this week, we moved into our new home. We had hoped to live on base to save money, only need one car, safety etc. However that was obviously not the plan for us as we were told we were number 12 on the list for a 2 bedroom house and it would take 4-6 months to get a house. Well we are having our daughter in 4 months so that really wouldn't work for us!

So we looked into the nearest town to the base, still a 20 minute drive to the base. We had been told to stay in one area of the town as there are a lot of unsuitable places to live here, we saw about 7 houses and nothing really fit exactly what we wanted/needed/could afford.

Then we called the number to view another property, explained we wanted to be moved in ASAP and met the best landlady ever! She had a family in the house who had not paid rent for a month, trash all over the yards etc. We weren't able to see in the house but she showed us around her mother-in-law's home which is opposite the house and is the same layout.

It was perfect, 3 beds, lots of living space, his and hers sinks etc we agreed to move in just seeing the layout!

When we turned up on Tuesday, the house was full of random people (the previous tenants making a poor job of moving out!) and the poor landlady scrubbing the kitchen. She had been here 12 hours and the house was a wreck, holes in the walls, bathrooms disgustingly dirty, carpets all torn up! She had been scrubbing bathrooms and cleaning carpets to make it look better. She even offered to pay for us to stay in a hotel (but by that time she had cleaned it up enough for us to feel okay to stay)

Since then she has been her 12 hours a day repainting the whole house, replacing broken blinds etc. She is having the carpets redone and new windows fitted all to make the house a beautiful place to live. I feel at home already and just love the space

Well I will share photos when it is all pretty and only 3 more weeks until our household goods arrive! They were sent mid January!!

Wow! Thank goodness there are some amazing landlords/ladies out there. I bet it'll feel wonderful having what'll be almost entirely a new house!

She sounds like a great landlady! Not many like that out there!

What a blessing! I'm glad you have such a sweet landlady. It worked out in your favor that the previous tenants took such poor care of the space. Yay!
