Truly Free

02/20/2013

When death overtakes us
I have a wonder
Whether this is a life chosen
Or was it simply time and circumstance
Pushing where little choice
Allows us to go.

Oh, to see those whose lives seem complete
Of salvation and completion
Or the prose of life
When the essence of the moment stretches
And a bright light falls upon an irresistable scene
Who am I?

I would that the direction I choose be my own
But so often see life is not truly chosen
Expecting this inner desire of a moral compass
Or the inner wrenching of the psyche
How much or little of our life is by Choice?

Only when that silent second overtakes us
And each breathes their last
Will we each, one and all
Be Taken into account
And know that we have participated
Or were simply washed about in the tides.

Will we then know
If those choices made
Are mistakes
Either selfless
Or selfish
Is written in the final stanza

I only can hope
That I would not leave a shattered trail
From thoughtless action
and selfish attitude.
I pray for forgiveness
For those times I flutter helplessly
Hopelessly in the wind.

Let it not be The Fates in control
Give me the courage of Character
Where Love bolsters
And moral is more important
Than my mortality.
