Neurotic to the bone, no doubt about it.

I'm a little worried (read: a lot worried) about Brendan. His douchey ex is trying to get him back, and there's something a little... off... about that whole situation. He's still very much not over her, and yesterday he sent me a text like 10 minutes after we came back from break saying “To have you hurt me again?”. I asked him “Hurt you how?” and he responded by apologizing and saying that it was in reference to a conversation we had been having on break, and that it was part of a longer set of two messages that he tried to cancel but one went through anyway. I think he meant to send that to Kaytee, and he accidentally sent it to me instead. I even told him that, and he said “I knew you would think that...”, which tells me he had enough time to plan out an excuse. The thing of it is, I have never done anything to hurt him, so even if his story is true, why would the second part of the message say that I was “hurting him again”? That doesn't make sense. That's something you would say to a cheating ex who is trying to convince you to go back to them, which low and behold, he happens to have. The funny thing is that I don't even care that he talks to her, but I'm starting to care now that I know she's trying to get him back. And furthermore, even though that message sounds like a “no” in that context, it also shows that he's entertaining the thought and giving her a chance to explain herself. As a clever manipulator, that's all the wiggle room she needs to take him back, and there's nothing I can even do about it. I look at him and I see Heather, making the same mistake over and over, and I'm powerless to stop it. I just hope he's strong enough to keep her away this time, because I can't handle losing him. He means way too much to me to throw it all away like that. Especially since she's just going to cheat on him again and again. I hope to God I'm wrong. I just want to believe the story he told me, but it doesn't add up at all Why does love have to suck so much?

If he loved you and cared for you, he wouldn't even be talking to his ex!! [foreverglow] [reply]

That sounds like bad news. You can love someone and still be getting over a breakup, but lies/gaslighting is a bad sign. [saturnalia] [reply]
