work issues and my plan plus SFand KC i the WS

10/17/2014

Work issues and my plan plus SF KC are in the WS
10-17-2014

Yesterday I had a bad feeling about going to work. Well, not a bad feeling, I just didn’t want to go.
I had read an article about the 9 reasons you should quit your job and I nodded my head at all of them.
And then I went to work.

The clients were going out for dinner to a Chinese buffet at 5PM and I work from 4-6 so I changed my time yesterday and worked 3-5PM

I wanted to sit down and meet with the new assistant manager and on Tuesday, we made plans to sit down on Thursday and chat. I even followed it up on Wednesday with a reminder, because she asked me to and not that I was expecting a reply, there was no reply. So I was going to go to work from 3-5 and I would meet with the assistant manager.

I got to work early and said hi to people. I set up my computer like I do every Tues-Thursday and then opened a word document and started writing down topics I wanted to discuss with the A-M. (assistant manager) The staff who does the 11PM-7AM shift came up to me, much to my surprise, and
M: how is everything going
J: I’ve had better times. What about you?
M: same old same old. Do you know if the meeting will be down stairs or right here?
J: What meeting?
M: the staff meeting.
J: I didn’t know about any staff meeting?
M: We were suppose to have one last week but it was rescheduled to this week.
J: No one told we about one last week either.
M: oh
J: what does that tell you about what they think of me?
M: wellllll
J: it tells me that they don’t think anything about me. (motioning him to come closer, and whispering) I don’t care for the manger.

We chatted about other things and he went off to go check on something.

The clinical coordinator came in and I played dumb.

S: Hey Jonathan how are things?
J: Everything is good, what about you?
S: I can’t complain. Hey, do you know where the meeting will be?
J: what meeting?
S: I was told we had a staff meeting today at 3.
J: (shocked look) really? I didn’t know about a meeting?
S: I’m just told where to be and I show up so I don’t know.
J: well, the meeting is usually down stairs but I don’t know with the new manager. I’m not sure where he wants to have it.
S: Ok, well, I’ll go find out.
J: ok, great.

I was emailing with the A-M Wednesday and planned on meeting with her yesterday. She never mentioned a staff meeting. M told me that it was rescheduled from last week, so she knew about it and didn’t tell me about it. So If I didn’t change my schedule for the clients, I would never have known about the staff meeting.

Eventually, all the staff members sit around the table which I was already at, which is the resident’s dining room table.

The manager had a list of things he wanted to discuss and like a good puppet, the bran new assistant manager piped up with new ideas that she would implement or things she and the manager went over that would make the paperwork easier on people. The way they were talking, it was as if they were talking down to us (well, them, I don’t do any paper work) and a few times they said “and we should talk about that during the house meeting” (which I run) and yet they never mentioned my name. They never said “hey Jonathan, what do you think about that?” or “Jonathan, can you discuss that at the next house meeting?” nothing. In fact, except for a coworker telling me she was going to write my initials down on the sign in sheet, I was never addressed. However, I had taken notes so I know what to discuss at the house meeting.

All of this, everything from day one of when the manager taking over, I have been treated like I was nothing. Like I was just another body taking up space. I am done with it.

I have trainings coming up later this months and some next month and in the second week of December.
I am going to go through those trainings, mostly the first aide-CPR one, so I am certified for another year and I get knowledge from other training but then once I get what I want, I’m leaving.

I do not want to be in a place where I’m not wanted and obviously, not needed.
Most of all, not respected.

What am I going to do?
I don’t know right now. As of Nov 4th, I would be with this company for 10 years. I have been through a lot, a lot more than anyone should have to and I stuck with it mostly because of the clients.

I am going to email some people who I went to grad school with, see if they have any ideas for me or opportunities. I will see if I can talk to an employment specialist, see what they suggest, see what type of field my knowledge, skills and experience would translate well with and in the mean time, just continue to apply to jobs, send my cover letter and resume to counseling companies or something with working with kids in an instructional 1-on-1 or small group environment.

I’m not sure what else I could do.
Someone will want me. Someone will be able to utilize my knowledge and skills.

Flipping the coin

Did you ever know that I love baseball?

I love baseball and last night was just another example. It took me far, far away into the night into my happy place where I stayed for about 5 hours non-stop.

The unlikely Kansas City Royals, a very young team with little experience had their brooms out and swept away the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week I a best 4 of 7, winning the first four games. The Royals had swept the Angels in the previous round in a best of 5, taking the first 3 games and even had to play in the wild card game against the Oakland Athletics.

The Royals are hotter than a 10 alarm fire. It’s made up of mostly players who played together, coming up through the minor leagues. The KC Royals franchise had not been in the playoffs since they won it all in 1985. Most of the current roster wasn’t even alive then.

The Royals got by with great defense, good starting pitching, lights-out pen and timely and unusual home runs, as they were last in all of baseball in home runs this season.

Last night, it was the San Francisco Giants beating the STL Cardinals in a thriller to advance to the World Series.

It was game 5 with the Giants playing at home with the chance to win the series in front of their home crowd, being up 3 games to 1.

Both teams got on the board early but it was 3-2 Cardinals, SF was up 2-1 but the Cardinals hit two solo home runs by Adams and Cruz, to go ahead, 3-2. There was great pitching and even greater defense on both sides, protecting the score. However, in the 8th inning, the Giants decide to send pinch hitter, Mike Morse, a hulking figure, to the bat and with one solid swing, brought San Francisco to it’s feet and the score was now tied at 3.

In the bottom of the 9th, two men on base. Ishikawa, a young player who came up in the Giants system and as late as mid –season this year, was in the minors, was now up in the biggest at bat of his life.

Here’s the wind up by Wacha, and the pitch and … that is gone! Travis IshiKawa hit a home run to win the game. The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! Just like in 1951, the Giants won the pennant. They are going on to face the Kansas City Royals in the World Series!!

* Tim Hudson, a pitcher for the Giants has been playing in the majors for 16 years and this is his first crack at the world Series.
*Most of the rest of the team, was in the World Series just two years before and winning it all in 2012 and a few less, were there in 2010 when they won it again.

The 2014 World Series will pin the Kansas City Royals against the San Francisco Giants for what will sure be a fall classic.

SEE YOU TUESDAY NIGHT BASEBALL!
