662 getting new computer and email addy to waitress daughter
10 3 14

My computer is so messed up. I can use it but some times I need to take the long or very long ways to do simple tasks. Plus about a month ago, my computer was heating up to the point it would shut down. After a week of that, It hasn’t done it since but my computer is 4 years old. Plus I’m on it about 12-18 hours a day, every day. So I asked the commission for the blind, if they could help me buy a computer. They said yes, but there was a LOT of redtape I had to hjump and shake. I filled out a form. Had to also send my W2’s, a letter from SSI, and a signed letter from my doctor, stating that I was blind.

A week passed and I was going to call Wednesday but I got a call at 9AM on Wednesday.
It was a person from the program and introduced himself and said that he would like to come out and do an evaluation. Am I available tomorrow (Thursday) I said yes. We settled on a time.
He came over Thursday. He was a very nice guy. He asked me a bunch of questions about my vision. We talked about old technology we used growing up and some things about our personal life.
He said that he’s going to recogmend a new computer for me. I thanked him.
He said that he had a few computers. He told me about one. I asked wht the difference was between the various brans. He explaned that ll the parts are made at the same place. It just what Name is slapt on the computer. He told me everything this one computer has as far as space. I explained to him that I don’t know what that really means. He said, unless you are downloading and saving full movies, this is plenty. I said oh, well, ok. He said they’ll put in for the extended warranty. He said it will take about a month to get in. We will also get office 2013 for you and the newest Jaws. (my speech program) The computer will be sent to the office so the next time I come here, everything will be installed and all we have to do is transfer your emails and documents. That stuff should be very easy. I was a little excited. (negativeness still in my head from other things) I thanked him and saw him to the front door.
SO, YAY! a new-free computer.

(background)
Every Thursday night, I go out for dinner with my dad and a few of his friends. (Al, Hal, and Kevin) We pretty much go to the same 5 or so restaurants.

A few years ago, we started going to this little hole-in-the-wall Italli restaurant that is about a mile and half up the road from me.(well, a left and a right in there) They have a very big menu. Everything is to order, I always get tornalini and what ever sauce I feel like for that night. They have about 8 different ones.

Over this time, we have had the same waitress every time. She’s an outgoing, friendly lady who is probably in her early-mid-50’s. So when you get the same waitress every time, you learn things about them-their family. So I found out bits over the years about her-her family. I learned she had a daughter and her daughter is a nurse.

About a month ago, we went and I learned a lot more about her daughter. I only asked one question that night. She told us that She’s a nurse who works at a Hospital that’s about hmm 30-40 mins away. She goes to school and wants to be an LPN. I found out she’s the quiet type. She doesn’t like going to bars and other noisy places but goes to lounces. She told us (unintentionally) how much her daughter makes and that she lives at home with her and the street-address of where they live. (it was all in passing conversations) Her mom told a story about how her daughter was asked to go out to a club with her friends. Her mom saw her before she left. The mom just looked at her and said “mm emmemm” (disapproving tone-sound) she was wearing a long plane dress and her mom said something like, you are going to a club not a conference. So her mom helped her pick out an outfit that would be appropriate for a club. I just softly laughed to myself.
Her mom also told us she’s a huge Boston sports fan. “with her Dad and I both being sports fans, she didn’t have a chance” I asked her in a soft voice, “is she single?” (in a very perky tone) yes and …(my mind drifted a bit) She said at some point, the next time you guys come down, I’ll give her a call so she meet you guys.
So I know a lot about her daughter except for her…name.
Which is why I refer to her as the waitress’s daughter.

And that’s where I’ll segue to last night.

It’s been about a month since we last went to the restaurant. As usual, my Dad called to have Linda, the waitress put some glasses in the fridge to chill and to let her know that we’re coming.

I got home from work. Kevin, Al and my dad were ready and Hal was already at the restaurant.
I got in the back with Al with my Dad and Kevin in the front. (to make it confusing for others, my dad’s name is Allan. So we have Al, Hal and Allan)

I said to Al J: Do you remember the last time we went?
A: sure, about a month ago.
J: Do you remember what part of the conversation was about?
A: there was a lot of conversations.
J: well, sure, but one that I was particulally interested in?
A: Linda’s daughter
J: you do remember.

He said something about helping me with it.

So we get into the restaurant and say our hi’s to Hal and to Linda. As soon as we sit down, Al started.
Al: so let’s get down to it. We’re here. Where is your daughter?
L: You know, I actually sent her a text to see where she is but she didn’t return my text. She’s probably is out with one of her friends but I’ll text her again. I’ll tell her you guys are here.
(I was shocked that not only did she remember from the last time but she went through with it)

We’re getting ready to order…
First Al ordered, then Hal than my dad and then came to me.

L: Jonathan, what would you like?
J: what’s your daughter’s name?
L: Susan
J: I’ll have Tornalini with the spicy red sauce.
L: (name of sauce)
J: yup.

Kevin ordered and Al said, Did your daughter respond yet? We’re waiting for her.
L: No, but I’ll go text her again.
(Jonathan with a horrified-embarrassed look)

She brings out the salad.
L: I totally for got. My daughter is at class. I texted her again and she called me back. She said what do you need? I told her that it wasn’t an emergency I was just wondering where she was but she is in school. She wanted to graduate early so is taking classes on Wednesday and Thursday nights and then Saturdaay and Sunday morning. She was suppose to take a class next semester but wanted to graduated in December instead of waiting till May. She did say that she felt bad she couldn’t be here. She wanted to meet you guys.
(she puts my salad down in front of me)
J: if I give you my email address, could you give it to your daughter?
L: I defanately will do that for you.
J: but don’t pressure her to email me or anything.
L: no, I wouldn’t do that. I’ll just give it to her and she can do what she wants with it.
J: thank you

Through the rest of the dinner, I learn more about Susan and more about Linda and her family.

End of dinner, Linda had brought m left overs wrapped up and put it in front of me. She was saying goodbye and thank yous.

J: can I give you my email?
L: oh, yes, sorry.
(my dad had a piece of paper and a writing utensle)
Dad: what am I writing down?
J: my email address.
Dad: oh right.
AL: why don’t you put down all of our email addresses? (laughs)
(Jonathan horrified look)
Linda: Don’t listen to him. I wouldn’t do that.
L: you guys said you live in Saugus, right?
J: yup, about a mile away from you.
L: oh really? (with interest)
J: yup we live on Davis. If you go down maine to Vine
L: yup
J: and Davis is off of Vine
L: wow you do live close.
J: (to my dad) can you put my name on there too?
Dad: of course
L: and put Davis too.
Dad: ok.
L: When can you receive emails till? (realizing what she just said, she laughed) II guess anytime since you get it on your computer. I was thinking of when I was a kid and someone would only be able to call till a certain time.
(Dad hands linda the paper)
L: ok, I’ll be sure to give it to her but don’t worry. I’ll just give it to her.

It’s late Friday afternoon. and no email yet but she’s working My guess is that if she does email me, it will be tonight.
And if she doesn’t email, oh well, I tried.
