You have a friend. Your friend is concerned with how you’re handling your free time. She gives you one small, piece of advice, no more than 10 words. You take these 10 words, and you think about them endlessly. It swirls around in your brain for hours, or days. You can’t tell if it was a cause for genuine concern, or if your self esteem issues cause you to inject artificial negativity into every situation. Your head magnifies the stupid idea that it was just some stupid, condescending piece of advice. “Run into my mouth, it’s safe here!” says the monster.
So you have to sit down and look at it from a logical perspective. Is the advice sound? Is its critical aspect accurate? Am I failing to look at myself from a critical standpoint? Where does my ego fall into this? |
